Study Abroad

All SJMC students are encouraged to participate in one of the many study abroad programs available to University of Minnesota students. The University's Learning Abroad Center has designed a special overview of study abroad options for journalism and mass communication students entitled "Study Abroad in Journalism and Mass Communication."

Study abroad options include language programs, theme programs, field study programs and integrated study options. In addition to receiving credit for study abroad programs in which the transferability of credits has already been established, SJMC students often arrange to register for directed study credit under the supervision of an SJMC faculty member. On occasion, SJMC faculty offer study abroad opportunities, such as the "Press Freedom in the United Kingdom" course.

With faculty approval, SJMC students may use study abroad courses and seminars as part of the supporting course requirement for the major, or as context courses – if not as exact parallels to existing SJMC context courses, then as topics courses.
