SJMC Scholarships for Current Students

Below is the list of scholarships available to current SJMC majors. The majority of these scholarships are for undergraduates, although a few are awarded to graduate students as well. Graduate students should visit the Graduate Studies section of this website for more information about graduate student aid.

Asian America Journalist Association (AAJA) Minnesota Journalism Scholarship
Undergraduate student with interest in or declared interest in journalism. Preference to students from Upper Midwest and of Asian American descent.

James S. Barden Memorial Scholarship
Undergraduate majors with interest in advertising.

Thomas F. Barnhart Memorial Scholarship Undergraduate and graduate students interested in visual communication/graphic arts.

Elliot M. Baron Memorial Award
Journalism major in recognition of outstanding work on a student publication.

Thomas Bartikoski Memorial Scholarship in Public Relations
Undergraduate major in strategic communication with career interest in public affairs communications, established record of academic excellence and a record of leadership evidenced by active participation in the Willard Thompson Chapter of PRSSA.

BBDO Scholarship
Undergraduate major or premajor in strategic communication with principal interest in advertising.

Anita Beck Memorial Scholarship
Undergraduate major or graduate student with interest in graphic arts or photo communication. Based on academic performance, potential and financial
need.

Carrol Binder Scholarship
Senior or graduate student with promise in reporting or interpreting of international affairs in newspaper.

Comcast Scholarship
Junior or senior majors. Awards based on contribution to diversity, academic achievement, demonstrated leadership and community involvement.

Patrick Connolly Memorial Scholarship
Journalism major in news editorial.

Director's Award
Undergraduate major in strategic communication based on merit.

Peter & Elizabeth Edmonds Scholarship
Undergraduate journalism majors or students intending to major in journalism. Based on academic performance and potential in their field.

Herbert Berridge Elliston Memorial Scholarship
Award based on merit.

Curtis L. Erickson Memorial Scholarship
Journalism major in news editorial.

Floren Scholarship
Undergraduate major in strategic communication based on merit.

Greer Scholarship
Undergraduate majors whose principal interest is advertising.

Bette Jones Hammel Scholarship
Undergraduate major based on academic standing and potential.

Hubbard Broadcasting Scholarship
Undergraduate or graduate students in broadcasting based on academic standing and potential.

Hubbard Radio Scholarship
Preference given to an undergraduate Native American student majoring in broadcasting, journalism, communications or a related field.

Brad Johnson Memorial Scholarship
Undergraduate majors with interest in advertising, based on journalistic potential and academic requirements.

For entering freshman planning to major in journalism. To be used in sophomore year.

Howard and Roberta Liszt Award
Major in strategic communication based on academic standing, demonstrated exceptional talent and leadership potential in the field, and have distinguished themselves through their work in Ad Club.

Dave and Linda Mona Scholarship
Undergraduate premajor or major in public relations.

Dave Moore Scholarship
Major based on academic standing and potential.

Lee Ann Norman Memorial Scholarship
Journalism major in broadcast based on academic standing, potential and need.

Robert and Joan Owens Scholarship
Undergraduates with interest in or declared major in journalism. Based on academic performance and potential.

Pioneer Press Employee Funded Scholarship Undergraduate journalism major in news editorial.

Porter Prize
Junior majoring in strategic communications, with demonstrated talent and leadership potential, specifically in the area of copy writing and/or art direction.

Press Women of Minnesota Scholarship
Preference for female premajor or major.

Otto Quale Memorial Scholarship
Undergraduate major or graduate student based on academic performance, journalistic potential and financial need.

Harold Roitenberg Scholarship
Journalism major.

Archie Salyards Memorial Scholarship
Junior or senior major in news editorial. Preference to students from Duluth or N.E. MN.

Larry D. Schmidt Memorial Scholarship
Journalism major.

David Donhowe Shippee Memorial Scholarship
Junior, senior or graduate student interested in visual communication. Based on academic performance, journalistic potential and financial need.

David Silverman Memorial Scholarship
Junior or senior majors or graduate students in news editorial with B average and show promise of outstanding professional performance. Financial need considered.

Mary Jane Sokolowski-Gustafson Memorial Scholarship
Junior or senior female major in news editorial with interest in community journalism, weekly newspapers or small daily newspapers.

Mike Steele Arts Criticism Scholarship
Undergraduate major or graduate student with demonstrated interest in journalism and the arts. Based on academic performance and potential.

Hattie Steinberg Scholarship
Undergraduate major with interest in journalism, incoming junior or senior. Based on academic performance and potential.

Howie Stillman Memorial Scholarship
Major with interest in print or broadcast journalism.

Strother Communications Group Scholarship
Full year scholarship for undergraduate major or graduate student.

Charles Sweningsen Scholarship
