The SJMC is part of the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) and is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC).
Ideally located in a major media market, the school tries in every way possible to take advantage of the Twin Cities’ metropolitan setting and the availability of media leaders to enrich both classroom instruction and experiential learning opportunities. Many SJMC students participate in internships with local newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations, and nationally respected advertising and public relations agencies.

The Center for German & European Studies at the University of Minnesota provides fellowships for U of M students to serve as native-speaker interns in elementary schools in Berlin, Germany. The program is open to undergraduate and graduate students.

their health and well-being, and (2) anyone who wants to write health news reports that
will enable people to make good, well-informed health decisions.
Following on Digital Planet 1 course last semester (or similar), Digital Planet 2 (DP2)
focuses on the uses of digital technologies with an emphasis on you creating online maps
and using digital technologies. Technologies you will work with include Google Earth,
NASA WorldWind, Quantum GIS, and GPS software and hardware. Much of this work will
involve manipulating data, preparing analysis, and making on-line interactive maps, called
mash-ups. The technologies we will use offer a broad range -some may say unlimited--
number of possibilities useful in any field.
