Resources are available for graduate students interested in finding funding for communications research. Support is available from the SJMC, the University, and some external sources.

Graduate Research Partnership Program (GRPP): This program is designed to encourage and support research partnerships between faculty in the College of Liberal Arts and students enrolled in graduate programs housed within the college. The program provides a summer research stipend to CLA graduate students to support their professional, scholarly, and creative development while collaborating with CLA faculty on scholarly research and creative activity. Ralph D. Casey Dissertation Fellowship: Available to SJMC doctoral candidates who have proposed outstanding dissertation research projects. Award in the amount of $2,000. Contact sjmcgrad@umn.edu for more information.
Kriss Research Fund: Administered by the SJMC Communication Research Division. Award varies. Contact Ken Doyle at kendoyle@umn.edu for more information.
Silha Center Research Fellowship in Media Ethics and Law: Administered by the Silha Center for the Study of Media Ethics and Law. Available to graduate students with demonstrated research interest and ability in the area of mass communication ethics or/and law. Contact silha@umn.edu for more information.

CLA Grant Office: The Office for Research Development helps CLA faculty and administrators locate, apply for, and administer funding for research, scholarship, creative activities, or other sponsored projects.

MacArthur Interdisciplinary Program Research Grants for Doctoral Students: Administered by the MacArthur Interdisciplinary Program. Available to Ph.D. students in the social sciences. Applicants must be at least 18 months away from their dissertation field work. The applicant's research must fit those of the MacArthur Program. The grants are $5,000 each for doctoral research and will be disbursed after students have completed all pre-dissertation requirements. COS: Community of Science: A collaborative network of scientists and their institutions intended to promote the visibility and funding of scientific research. Funds are available for students and faculty members at education institutions. Search the COS funding database.
Social Science Research Council Predissertation and Dissertation Fellowships: The Social Science Research Council (SSRC) is an independent, nongovernmental, not-for-profit, international association devoted to the advancement of interdisciplinary research in the social sciences. Applications are sought from students enrolled in Ph.D. programs in the social sciences at 23 universities, of which the University of Minnesota is a participant. SPIN: Sponsored Programs Information Network: A database for worldwide scholars seeking research fundings in the various areas of studies. Students and employees at the U of M can search this database free of charge.
