Adina Schneeweis
Adina Schneeweis is a second year PhD student in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. She received a M.A. in mass communication at SJMC in 2004, and a B.A. in journalism from Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj, Romania, her hometown, in 2002. Her interests lie within the field of international communication, as well as visual communication and racial representations.
In her 4 years at SJMC, Adina received several scholarships and fellowships from the Graduate School of the University of Minnesota and the SJMC, as well as a Kriss Research Fund grant to assist her with the work for her Master’s Thesis (2004) and a scholarship from the American-Romanian Youth Association (2005-2006).
Adina currently lives in South Minneapolis with her husband Bob, who works in violence prevention, is a member of the Bahá’í Faith, and is looking forward to a career in teaching and research in mass communication. She likes knitting, exercising and biking around the lakes.
Current Research Interests:
Adina’s research interests include international communication, with particular focus on television images of racial difference, and the construction and representation of self and others in the global media environment. She wrote her Master Thesis on American television images of African Americans broadcast in Romania.

Professional Experience:
Her professional experience includes working for the Romanian Public Television in her hometown and making over 50 documentaries in the span of over two years. She also worked briefly for a local newspaper in Cluj, Romania, writing feature stories.
