Alan Butterworth
Alan Butterworth was born in Dubai to a Chinese mother and British father who now lives in Macau. He grew up in Bahrain where he went to school and swam a lot until the first Gulf War. In order to avoid stray scud missiles, Alan moved to school in Kent, England and attended the University College London to get his BA in English. He then moved to Beijing to study Chinese for a year and teach English for another. Alan ended up in here after meeting his Minnesotan fiancée there.
Outside of journalism, Alan is generally interested in Shaolin kung fu, bass/acoustic guitar, piano, swimming, travel, astronomy, Chan philosophy, web design, writing a novel, and finishing his degree on time.
