Funding Priorities

We have several specific giving opportunities that may interest you.

Hazel Dicken-Garcia Graduate Fellowship

We have also recently established a new endowment honoring professor Hazel Dicken-Garcia, who retired at the end of the 2007-08 academic year after nearly 30 years of outstanding service. The SJMC has pledged to match gifts to the fund dollar for dollar. In addition, donations and the SJMC match will qualify for a second match from the University of Minnesota. Every dollar you contribute will leverage the equivalent of three additional dollars in fellowship support to outstanding graduate students.

Journalism Library

The Eric Sevareid Library and Digital Information Resource Center is an indispensable resource for students and faculty, supported 100 percent by private donations. Gifts are used to purchase books and journal subscriptions, maintain technology, and cover all operating expenses.

Mitchell V. Charnley Alumni Professorship in Journalism

We are pleased to honor the distinguished career and lasting legacy of professor Mitchell V. Charnley with this endowed professorship. This is our first endowed professorship named to honor a faculty member and our first major endowment established with literally hundreds of gifts from alumni ranging from $5 to more than $100,000.

Journalism/Mass Communication Fund

This fund provides valuable discretionary support to the SJMC, allowing us to make strategic investments in unexpected opportunities. In recent years, gifts to this fund have provided scholarships to some of our most outstanding students.
